Appeal to AASSATA to withdraw strike
ITANAGAR, Jan 11: All Arunachal Pradesh Tribal Welfare Association (AAPTWA) has appealed to the All Arunachal Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers Association (AASSATA) to reconsider and withdraw its indefinite pen down strike for greater interest of student community.
The Association in a release today said that the strike has badly affected the academic career of the poor students who are pursuing their studies in Govt run schools.
Referring to the two times pay enhancement, regularization of more than 200 SSA teachers, the AAPTWA said that ‘pen down strike is logically and constitutionally not genuine which is directly violating the guidelines of recruitment of contractual SSA teachers.’
Fire causes heavy damage to school
ITANAGAR, Jan 11: A major fire accident on January 9 has caused heavy damage to Government Middle School Patila, Hollongi, the oldest educational institution of the village.
The fire which broke out at 5 pm burnt down 80 percent of the school building, including desks, benches and books, informed Hollongi Nyvgam Youth Association.
While demanding an investigation into the incident to unearth the cause of the fire, the association urged the department concerned to take the necessary step immediately so that the school does not face any problem in conducting the ensuing Annual Examination.

T Riba inspects ICDS projects in 3 districts
TEZU, Jan 11: Director of Department of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development T Riba visited Lower Dibang Valley, Lohit and Anjaw district to inspect and assess the problems of the various ICDS projects of the districts.

Pasighat to become state’s HRD hub:Tuki
PASIGHAT, Dec 11: Riding upon the historic development – beginning of the first university of Arunachal Pradesh – Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today prophesied that Pasighat, the grand old town of the state, would one day become Arunachal’s hub of human resource development.
Addressing a mega Congress rally here this morning, Tuki said that Pasighat would always be written in golden letters when the history of Arunachal Pradesh is mentioned.
Earlier in the day, he had laid the foundation stone of the first university to be owned and managed by the state under an Act passed recently by the State Legislative Assembly.
“Our first college – Jawaharlal Nehru College (JNC) – was established in Pasighat years ago and still running strong. A horticulture college is also here…. and with an Agriculture College coming up in the next couple of years, Pasighat is all set to become the center of human resource development for our state,” he said.
Citing the first ever state university – in principle named as Arunachal University – as a pet project of the state government, Tuki assured a sum of Rs 20 crores for its infrastructure development in the first phase.
Our Correspondent adds: According top priority to agriculture and horticulture sectors in the state, Tuki announced bonanza for development of Pasighat area. Tuki said that his government is taking step to boost rural economy through enhanced agriculture, horticulture activity and implementation of rural development schemes besides creation of employment avenues. He said that the government, through Chief Minister’s Agricultural Mechanization Program is providing 50 percent subsidy for procurement of tractor, power tiller and other machineries.
Reiterating some developmental initiative taken by the state government, Tuki disclosed that an amount of Rs 5 crore has been estimated for development of tea and rubber cultivation in the state this year and more fund would be poured in the next years.
He said the government, observing high rate production of citrus fruits in Siang belt, is inviting local entrepreneurs for setting up of fruit processing industry.
The chief minister further said his government is taking welfare schemes for the women and youths. The government is planning to employ as many as one lakh youths during the 12th plan and about 10,000 employments will be created within the current year. It has increased honorarium of the Gaon Burahs from Rs 250 to Rs 500. He also urged the parents to guide their children on right way.

Talking about Pasighat Air field, the chief minister informed that about Rs 134 crore has already been sanctioned. According to him, the Centre initially sanctioned Rs 100 crore for infrastructure development of the State University at Pasighat and it may require around Rs 600 crore for its fulfillment.
Addressing the Congress workers, Tuki urged them to work united for strengthening the party at grassroots level. Referring the Prime Minister’s massive development package for the state during 2008, he exhorted the party cadres to tighten belts to capture power at the Centre as well as in the state in the next elections.
Speaking on the occasion, Pasighat East MLA cum Education Minister Bosiram Siram placed the standing problems of the area before the chief minister and sought early solution of the people’s problem.
Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Ninong Ering said that he is cherishing a lot of hopes for the people of Arunachal. Stressing unified efforts for his dreams come true, he requested the party workers to turn their mandate towards Congress party during next parliamentary election.
Lok Sabha Member Takam Sanjoy, who never minces his words, called ‘spade a spade’ and asserted Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the main opposition party, has not much role to play in the lives and politics of Arunachal.
“Many promising leaders may start from the opposition but in the long run they come into the Congress fold. That proves the credibility of the Congress!” he observed.

City police statement an absolute eye wash: APC, APUWJ
ITANAGAR, Jan 11: The Arunachal Press Club (APC) and Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) termed the statement given by capital police in regards to Tongam Rina shooting case as an absolute eye wash.
In a release, both the press bodies stated that police had never given priority to the case.
“When the AAPSU election process was going on, a person was arrested at Harmuti by Assam police in regards to Jumkar Basar murder case and Assam media had initially reported about alleged involvement of same person in the shooting case. On hearing this when press persons called up police officers, they specifically told us that everyone was busy for AAPSU election. How can SP Capital claim that police has accorded highest importance to this case?” the two organizations questioned.
While police claims of monitoring the case on daily basis, they only met Rina thrice in the last six months. They met her a day after she was shot and once after she was released from hospital. Of the three meetings, one was held only after she got in touch with the City Police Chief, they added.
The APC and APUWJ also questioned why was the information on receipt of the letter from CBI refusing to investigate the case was not relayed to either the press bodies or Rina. The press bodies and Rina had sought information from SP Capital many times but he never informed anyone. In the last six months until the survivor or press bodies approaches, the police on their part never took initiative to update about the case to either Rina or press bodies, the statement added.

ITANAGAR, Jan, 11: Following the death of a youth namely Hito Yudik in a skirmish that broke out during the Galo Baane Keba, Aalo reportedly remained under tense situation.
Sources from Aalo informed this daily that situation is apparently grim after a rumour of possible group clash.
However, when contacted, SP Aalo denied the report of grim situation. He said the situation is under control and nothing to worry about it. The SP further disclosed that no arrest was made on this stabbed to death case. Prime suspect has been identified and matter is under investigation, he added.
Tense situation also engulfed the Dumporijo township following the death of the youth who belongs to Dumporiji. Angry mob reportedly ransacked few local houses including that of a PWD executive at Dumporijo. All shops in the market at Dumporijo remained closed and less movement of vehicle were seen this afternoon. However, district administration swung into action and brought the situation under control by deploying paramilitary forces (with input from our Daporijo correspondent).
Meanwhile, expressing shock at the murder incident at Aalo, All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) today blamed the district administration for its alleged failure to tackle law and order.
AAPSU in a release today said that loophole in security arrangement on the part of the district administration was one of major causes that leads to heinous crime. Holding the district administration responsible for the incident, AAPSU said the incident occurred despite the security coverage was supposed to be sufficient enough. Claiming that the incident occurred in presence of responsible people of the state the AAPSU also condemned ‘the irresponsive attitude of all the dignitaries’ who didn't bother to manage emergency chopper service to evacuate the victim for immediate medical treatment.

ITANAGAR, Jan, 11: Expressing deep concern over the situation at Aalo after the death of a youth who succumbed to his injuries yesterday after skirmishes during Galo Baane Keba, All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) today appealed to the state government to deploy adequate security force to quell the situation before it deteriorates.
In a statement ANSU president Sikka Gapak said that the government and district administration should deploy adequate force to control the situation before it slip away from the hand. Gapak further condemned the district administration for failing to control the situation. ANSU president also appealed to people to maintain peace and tranquility. While mourning the death of a youth, ANSU president said people should not be instigated by the rumour mongers rather they should maintain peace and tranquility.
Meanwhile Arunachal Law Students Union (ALSU) also expressed concern over Aalo situation and appealed people to create conducive atmosphere. Terming the incident unfortunate, the ALSU expressed deep shock at demise of the youth.

Minor commits suicide, enquiry demanded
ITANAGAR, Jan 11: In a shocking incident on Wednesday night, a 14 year old class V student, Nana Diru, of Oju Mission School, Papu Nallah allegedly committed suicide at hostel premise after he was accused of stealing a mobile handset. Pape Diru, the uncle of the deceased, however, in a counter FIR out rightly rejected the suicide and alleged that ‘Ill treatment and torture” by the school warden forced his nephew to take the extreme step. In an FIR lodged at Naharlagun Police Station, Diru strongly appealed the concerned police department to arrest the warden and award exemplary punishment.

Meanwhile, expressing shock over the death of minor student inside the school campus, All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has termed the incident very unfortunate and great loss and strongly called upon the concerned investigating agency to properly investigate the incident without manipulating the same so as to award exemplary punishment to the culprits.
The Union in a release stated that there must be some reason behind the death of student and investigating agency should unearth the whole episode leading to mysterious demise of student at the earliest. It also suggested the Oju Mission School management to keep the school premise neat and clean to avoid any kind of disease.

Swami Vivekananda always believed in the power and the dreams of the youth and he wanted every youth of the country to encourage and nourish the historical culture of the nation as well as bring about advancement in them according to the changing modernization. His philosophy was a mixture of both spirituality and science. He gave a rational thinking to many of his ideas and thoughts. Such thinking motivated the youth since they could relate and logically align themselves to his thoughts.
Swami Vivekananda was a turning point in the modern history of India and the world, and he did trigger a new spiritual wave. The nationwide celebration of the iconic figure’s 150th birth anniversary this year should become a second turning point, expediting the process of change that he initiated over a century ago. An observation made by Vivekananda over 100 years ago is to the fore again now. “In India there are two great evils — trampling on women and grinding of the poor... There is no hope for the rise of that family or nation where there is no estimation of women or where they live in sadness,” he wrote. Over half of the 200 million people affected by disasters each year were female, according to the head of the UN office for Disaster Risk Reduction Margareta Wahlström. She called on women and girls to take leadership in disaster management in a world where disasters are on the rise and further said that the best disaster recovery programmes in the world involve women who have survived such events.
“If we are to build true disaster resilience we need to put the emphasis on their greater involvement before disasters strike.”
Women are responsible for many of the key strategic decisions of daily life. In many parts of the world this includes securing food, water and energy. They have real impact when they are fully involved in community planning for disaster risk reduction.

It’s rather easy saying than doing. One can guide you through tough times suggesting you, help you to live with the ills and odds that life keeps in store for you, teach you the difference between good and bad to go a long way up, but very few personalities can go to an extent of molding their life as an example to their inheritors. One such phenomenal person is our reverent Swami Vivekananda. No wonder the competence behind his conceptions has driven today’s youth to celebrate his birthday, the 12th of January, 150th anniversary this year.
“I am a viscid admirer of Swami Vivekananda. Every year I make it sure to spend time in Rama Krishna Math on his birthday which is now being celebrated as National Youth day. I find no other way to express my gratitude to this legend, for his words showed me a right route when I was almost balled up”, shares Naureen Tabassum, a medical student from Gandhi, while Sirisha Rathod from NIFT chunks, “I very often forget my incumbency as a civilian, just like any other young selfish fella. This place here (Rama Krishan Math) succors me in dipping myself into the holy feeling of being bounded.”
Commemorations are generally celebrated to remember a person, who is no more but is still loved. But few like him are memorized for their outstanding service to Indian ideas whose yearly observance deserves a lot more. Many ideas of his have only been confined to sayings and were hardly ever followed. On an average most of the students say they adore the words of Vivekananda, how far are that true, is indeed a personal question. “Swami Vivekananda is my role model. His preachings are worth admiration but the application part is the real question. Motivation he induced is afresh. I thought giving them a try but failed to shadow them because somewhere they involve pluck which is a social issue all over again”, regrets Nishita Taduri from BVRIT.
Few Populace have experienced the facts that have been out through Vivekananda long before but the hesitation to jab them and moralize them is quite vivid today. “Society plays a vital role directly and indirectly in a person’s life. Even if one stabs to take a positive direction, efforts to moralize themselves, they fail to sustain optimism due to the society. ‘Be good, the rest just follows’ is an old saying. Live with the society, walk in the path it walks in, else you’ll not even know that you are lost the moment you started to take a different path, all alone. He was a man who went across nations spreading knowledge. He was a man who was more respected around the world than here in India. When youth say they respect his ideas, why is there no room for patriotism? Why is this generation dreaming of life abroad? Why not India?
“When it comes to beliefs and orations, patriotism and stuff sound diplomatic, good. But they are too tedious in everyday life. All of us like boasting in public about patriotism, progress, oneness, keeping them in practice is impractical. If youngsters owe respect to the ideas of Vivekananda then let his birthday not be, only the birth anniversary of him but be a day of reckoning. If not, all the questions put across will go answer less, it does not go as a loss to the man but a casualty of youth today. After all its love and love alone that he preached, is missing today!
